A wedding ring is worn every day, often for decades, so comfort and durability matter as much as looks. This guide covers how to find the right size, which metal to choose, plain and diamond styles, how a band sits next to an engagement ring, and when to order. All Zarna Jewels wedding rings are made to order in our Surat workshop.
1. Get the size right
Wedding bands, especially wide ones, need a precise fit to be comfortable all day.
- Measure with our digital ring sizer or the ring size guide, or book an appointment and we will help.
- Measure at the end of the day when your fingers are warm, as fingers are smaller in the cold.
- For bands wider than about 6 mm, consider half a size larger, because wide bands feel tighter.
- We resize plain bands once free of charge within 30 days, by up to two sizes. See free ring resizing.
2. Choose the metal
We make wedding rings in 9K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, white or rose, and in 925 sterling silver.
| Metal | Look | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow gold | Warm and classic | Easy to repair and resize |
| White gold | Bright, silvery white | Usually rhodium plated; re-plating every few years keeps it bright |
| Rose gold | Soft pink tone from copper | Durable, and the colour does not fade |
| 925 sterling silver | Bright white | Most affordable, softer than gold and can tarnish |
14K gold is a popular choice for a ring worn every day; 18K has the richest colour. Our metal guide compares them in detail. Most couples match the metal of the wedding ring to the engagement ring.
3. Choose the style
- Plain bands: timeless and comfortable, in different widths and profiles.
- Diamond bands: a row of laboratory-grown diamonds across the top for extra sparkle.
- Eternity rings: diamonds part or all of the way round. Note that full eternity rings cannot be resized.
- Men’s wedding rings: wider, heavier bands and designs made for men.
- Matching sets: his and hers bands designed to go together.
4. Make sure it sits well with the engagement ring
Not every band sits flush against every engagement ring. Settings with a low basket, a halo or a wide profile can leave a gap or need a shaped band.
- Bridal sets pair an engagement ring with a band designed to fit it.
- Shaped or curved bands follow the outline of the engagement ring.
- Tell us which engagement ring you have and we will advise, or design a band to fit through our bespoke service.
5. Personalise it
An engraving inside the band, such as your initials, your wedding date or a few words, makes a ring personal. Ask us about engraving when you order. Engraved pieces cannot be returned, so check the spelling carefully.
6. Order in good time
Most of our wedding rings are made to order in 2–3 working weeks, and bespoke designs take 3–4 working weeks, plus delivery. Ordering two to three months before the wedding leaves time for any resizing.
7. Protect your rings
Every order is insured until it is signed for. After that, we recommend adding your rings to your home insurance or a specialist jewellery policy; your free valuation report gives the insurer the details they need.
Frequently asked questions
Who usually buys the wedding rings?
It is up to you. Some couples buy each other’s rings and others share the cost.
Do our wedding rings have to match?
No. Some couples choose matching bands, while others choose designs that suit each of them.
Should the wedding ring be the same metal as the engagement ring?
It is not essential, but matching metals look best side by side and wear evenly against each other.
What is a bridal set?
An engagement ring and a wedding band designed to fit together perfectly.
Will any wedding band sit flush with my engagement ring?
Not always. Some settings need a shaped or custom-fitted band; our specialists can help you choose or design one.
