Zarna Jewels – Hallmarking Guide (India Standards)

Hallmarking is a process that certifies the purity and fineness of precious metals like gold and silver. It assures our customers that their jewellery meets the quality promised.

BIS Hallmarking – What It Means

Under Indian regulations (mandatory from June 16, 2021), all gold and silver jewellery sold must carry a BIS Hallmark, which confirms:

1. Purity/Fineness of the metal (e.g., 10K, 14K, 18K for gold or 925 for silver).

2. BIS Logo – The official stamp of authenticity.

3. Jeweller’s Identification Mark – The code of the jeweller registered with BIS.

4. Assaying & Hallmarking Centre Mark – Code of the testing centre that verified the jewellery.

Gold Hallmarking in India

Gold purity is expressed in carats (K) or fineness. The following gold standards are hallmarked by BIS:

• 10K Gold (41.7% Pure Gold / 417 fineness)
  Affordable and durable. Hallmarked to ensure correct purity.

• 14K Gold (58.5% Pure Gold / 585 fineness)
  Popular for everyday jewellery — balance of strength and elegance.

• 18K Gold (75% Pure Gold / 750 fineness)
  Premium choice, often used in diamond jewellery.

• 22K Gold (91.6% Pure Gold / 916 fineness)
  Mostly used in traditional Indian jewellery (not preferred for diamonds due to softness).

• 24K Gold (99.9% Pure Gold / 999 fineness)
  Pure gold, too soft for jewellery. Used mainly for coins/bars.

Silver Hallmarking in India

For silver jewellery and articles, the standard purity is:

• 925 Silver (92.5% Pure Silver / 925 fineness) – Internationally known as Sterling Silver.

• BIS Hallmark confirms that your silver jewellery contains genuine purity and durability.

📌 Important Note:
While hallmarking is mandatory in India, all Zarna Jewels jewellery is also crafted with CVD Lab-Grown Diamonds. Diamonds are certified separately by IGI/GIA/GCAL labs to verify their cut, clarity, colour, and carat weight.
